Rules and systems are a large part of my work as it is through a set of rules that my paintings are made. Although I do not use the algorithmic side that has come about with the onset of programming. Generative Art as it is now called uses or is created with autonomous system. Sol LeWitt's list of rules is the style that I favour. His uses of geometric shapes and detailed lines hark to my patterns. But the fact that they are usually made directly onto the wall link to Richard Wright.
On the opposing side to rules and reason were the Dadaists who opposed reason, as to them it way the cause of the slaughter of millions. They championed the use of chance, accident and improvisation.
